Jean E. Smolik

CHARDON - Jean E. (nee McLean) Smolik, of Chardon, died Nov. 11, 2009, at Chardon Healthcare. She was 86.

Born Oct. 17, 1923, in Akron, she married Robert Smolik on Aug. 20, 1960, in Garfield Heights. She was a longtime area resident.

A homemaker, Jean was a member of the Chesterland Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She enjoyed picking wildflowers and gardening.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandson Tyler.

She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Smolik of Munson Township; son, Garry T. (Pamela) Graves of Wickliffe; grandson, Tyler Logan Graves of Wickliffe; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Graves; and sisters, Agnes Stillwell and Margarette Galloway.

Funeral services were held Nov. 14 at Burr Funeral Home in Chardon. Pastor Joe Woods of the Chesterland Baptist Church officiated.

Burial took place in Evergreen Cemetery in Chagrin Falls.

Thomas D. "Tom" Zambory

MUNSON TWP. - Thomas D. "Tom" Zambory, of Munson Township, died Nov. 9, 2009, in Munson Township. He was 47.

Born Nov. 11, 1961, in Garfield Heights, he was a lifelong area resident.

He worked in production and filling for L'Oreal in Solon.

Mr. Zambory was an avid antique collector, particularly glassware and bookends. He enjoyed working in his yard, nature and feeding the fish and birds. Spending time with his family was valued.

He is survived by his parents, Donald "Tom" and Patricia (nee Wells) Zambory of Trinity, Fla., formerly of Munson Township; siblings, John (Chris) Zambory of Brecksville and Daniel Zambory of Johnstown, Ohio; niece and nephew, Nicole and Eric Zambory of Brecksville; and longtime friend and girlfriend, Rhonda Garrett of Chardon.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Zambory.

A Memorial Mass was held Nov. 13 at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Newbury Township. Rev. Jay McPhillips of the church officiated.

Burial took place in Perry Cemetery in Perry Township.

Hazel J. Stone

Hazel J. (nee Eichler) Stone died Nov. 11, 2009, with her family at her side. She was 88.

Born Oct. 4, 1921, in Cleveland, she married Clarence "Archy" Stone on Sept. 29, 1950, at Pilgrim Christian Church. She was an area resident for the past 71 years.

She opened Security Federal, now known as First Merit, with John Aumick in Chardon Plaza. After several years at home, she returned to work as chief deputy clerk at the Geauga County Treasurer's Office. She later worked at Geauga Title handling escrows until her retirement in 1984.

Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family on trips to Canada camping, doing ceramics, fishing, feeding the birds, cooking, baking and canning. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially poker and solitaire.

She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Dennis) Paullin of Munson Township; son, Jeff (Karen) Stone of Chardon Township; and grandchildren: Melissa (Todd) McWilliams of Mantua, Kelly (Kevin) Looymans of Westlake, Nathan (Ashlee Thompson) Stone of Huntsburg and Jessica Stone of Chardon Township.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Archy" Stone; parents, George and Flossie (nee Clark) Eichler; and sisters, Lois Conant and Elaine Schlegel.

A memorial service was held Nov. 15 at Burr Funeral Home in Chardon.

Deborah A. Seyer

MIDDLEFIELD - Deborah A. Seyer, of Middlefield, entered eternal rest Nov. 9, 2009, at home surrounded by family and friends, after being a brave and valiant warrior in her battle with breast cancer. "Carpe Diem." She was 62.

Born in Akron to Emanuel and Billie (nee Van Dyke) Magilavy, she graduated from Firestone High School in Akron in 1965, after attending 11 different schools in four states while growing up.

She devoted her life to giving to her family, friends and others. Debbie spent countless hours volunteering to feed the hungry every second Saturday in Cleveland as well as at Brookside in Cleveland.

She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Debbie was a secretary at Cardinal Middle School for the past 22 years.

With heartfelt devotion, Debbie was a source of strength, courage, honor, humor and deep love to her all her family and friends.

She is survived by her parents; her loving husband of 41 years, Richard; sons, Major (U.S.A.F.) Jason (Lisa) Seyer of Alexandria, Va., and Joshua Seyer of Cleveland; sister, Lynda (John) Slikkerveer; brothers, Charles (Sue) Magilavy and Marc (Karen) Magilavy; and grandchildren, Taylor and Scott Douglas.

A memorial service was held Nov. 14 at Cardinal Middle School in Middlefield.

Lorianne S. Burkholder

PARKMAN TWP. - Lorianne S. Burkholder, a little angel, passed away Nov. 10, 2009, at her residence in Parkman Township from complications from infancy. She was 2 1/2 years old.

She was born March 31, 2007, in Warren, daughter of Sam L. and Rosanna S. (nee Detweiler) Burkholder.

She will be missed dearly by her parents, Sam and Rosanna Burkholder; sisters, Rebecca and Marian; brother Danny; paternal grandfather, Lester Burkholder; maternal grandparents, Sam D. and Mary Ann (nee Troyer) Detweiler; and many aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Maria; and grandmother, Lovina Burkholder.

Funeral services were held Nov. 13 at her residence in Parkman Township. Burial took place in the Weaver Cemetery. Bishop Rudy Frey officiated.

Rick Burzanko

TROY TWP. - Rick Burzanko, of Troy Township, died suddenly Nov. 13, 2009. He was 49.

Born Dec. 16, 1959, in Cleveland, he was the son of Nicholas and Irma (nee Tompkins) Burzanko. He married Leesa Ludlow on June 23, 1988, in Burton.

A lifelong resident of the area, he graduated from Berkshire High School where he was a custodian in the school system for 28 years. He coached football, basketball and baseball at all levels for years, as well as officiated the same sports games for years.

Rick was the president and member of the Berkshire Athletic Boosters Club, member of the Geauga County Umpires Association, the Trumbull County Officials Association and the Cleveland Officials Association. Rick also helped organize the Youth Recreation League in Burton in 1997.

He loved to golf and played softball on men's leagues in the area. In one way or another, Rick has been involved with sports for the past 20 years.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Leesa; sons, Nicholas, II Brock and Erick of Troy Township; brothers, Greg (Louise) of Perry Township and Bill (Danyel) of Mentor on the Lake; sisters, Vicky Meadows of Middlefield and Diane Burzanko of Painesville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service was held Nov. 18 at Berkshire High School in Burton.

Donald LeRoy Dayringer

BURTON TWP. - Donald LeRoy Dayringer, of Burton Township, died Nov. 14, 2009, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was 71.

Born June 15, 1938, in Carthage, Mo., he was the son of Roy Lee and Cynthia Edith (nee Erwin) Dayringer. He was married to Jane Maxwell for 47 years and was an area resident since 1977.

Mr. Dayringer was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre from 1961 to 1963. He was plant manager at Leggett & Platt Inc. in Middlefield from 1970 until his retirement in 2000. He

Survivors include his loving wife; children, Tahne Barnett of Carthage, Mo., Alan (Dawn) of Chesterland and Angela (Randy) Luke of Bryan, Ohio; grandchildren, Avery, Caitlin, Hanna, Ryan, Nicholas, Amber, Meghan, Erin, Maxwell and John; sisters, Betty (Bob) Bass and Joan (Ray) Trowbridge, both of Carthage.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at the Burton Congregational Church on the square in Burton.

Robert S. McGeough

WARREN - Robert S. McGeough, a prominent Warren attorney and civic leader, died Nov. 15, 2009, in Warren. He was 79.

A 50-year member of the bar, he was a longtime partner in the law firm of Hoppe, Frey, Hewitt & Milligan, and for more than 30 years, a director of First Federal Savings and Loan Association and First Place Financial Corporation.

Born in Chicago on Aug. 30, 1930, to Edward and Florence (nee Saunders) McGeough, he graduated from Chardon High School, Duke University and the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy for four years.

Bob married Janet James on Nov. 23, 1961, in Warren.

He served in numerous civic and professional organizations, including as president of the Buckeye Club of Warren and the Children's Rehabilitation Center, and as head of professional development of the United Way of Trumbull County. He also served on the board of Junior Achievement.

Bob was a member of the Trumbull Country Club and the Elks Club. He was an member of the American, Ohio and Trumbull County and Bar Associations and a former fellow of the Ohio Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation.

A highly respected member of the bar and an authority in banking law, Bob was a valued counselor and advisor to many clients over the years, including First Federal Savings and Loan Association and First Place Bank. He served as chairman of the First Place Foundation. Bob was a former member of the Ohio Supreme Court's Commission on Continuing Legal Education.

In addition to being a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, Bob was an avid golfer, Duke basketball fan and world traveler.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Maureen, of Fairfax, Va., Michael (Letitia), of Danville, Va., and Molly Ritts (Geoffrey) of Shaker Heights; eight grandchildren; and sister, Catherine McGeough Whitright of Chardon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two siblings.

A memorial service was held Nov. 18 at First United Methodist Church in Warren. Rev. Rick Oaks officiated.

William Thomas Lindhurst

CHESTER TWP. - William Thomas Lindhurst of the Metzenbaum Center in Chester Township died Nov. 14, 2009, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. He was 81.

Born June 12, 1928, in Cleveland, Mr. Lindhurst was a longtime resident of the Metzenbaum Center, where he was cared for and loved by his friends there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna (nee Hedak) Lindhurst.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at Burr Funeral Home in Chardon. Pastor Barbara Holzhauser of Hospice of the Western Reserve will officiate.
