Cum Laude inductees
Cum Laude Society is among the oldest academic honor organizations for high school students in the country. It was organized in 1906 by Dr. Abram W. Harris, director of the Tome School in Maryland. He believed that scholastic achievement of students in secondary schools should be accorded as much recognition as that given to other accomplishments.
Chagrin Falls High School inducted 16 of its academically superior seniors into the Cum Laude Society this past week. The seniors included: Emily Arjani, Scott Campbell, Connor Clegg, Ariel Driecer, Christopher Flesher, Andrew Garvin, Christopher Gorman, Michael Mahoney, Lindsey Quinn, Sarah Rood, Kirsten Stevenson, Lynn Vandendriessche, Wesley Wallace, Kaitlyn Weinert-Stein, Matthew Weinert-Stein and Robert Winkelman.
Sixth-graders visit the zoo
Chagrin Falls Intermediate School sixth-grade student zoologists recently visited the Cleveland Metropark Zoo as part of a study of animal adaptation and the interaction of organisms. During this study, each student focused on one animal to research. They documented the animal's characteristics, as well as its physical and behavioral adaptations that ensure its survival as a species.
Students then visited their research animal's zoo habitat and used what they know about the animal and its behaviors to evaluate it. Afterwards, students presented their animal research and zoo habitat evaluation with supporting evidence to their peers.
Teachers make presentation
Cindy Dean, middle school science teacher, and Lori Guerrini, middle school and high school librarian, were presenters at the annual Ohio Educational Library Media Association Conference in Columbus on Oct. 22. They co-presented a session on digital storytelling and explained how this technology application can be integrated into the science classroom.
