Volleyball team is undefeated
Cardinal Middle School's seventh-grade volleyball team finished their season with a perfect 14-0 record, with wins over Berkshire, Kirtland, Newbury, Aurora, Harvey, Hawken and Fairport Harbor. From the beginning of practice in August, they displayed a desire to win and strived to excel throughout the season.
Their constant play as a team ensured their continued success and victories. With each game, they learned more about what it meant to count on each other and play together. Their serving, setting, hitting and defense improved each day as the season progressed.
Congratulations to the entire seventh-grade volleyball team and their coach, Mrs. Melissa Cardinal, for a great 2009 season.
Student Council food drive
Cardinal Middle School student council is sponsoring a dog/cat food drive during the month of October for the Humane Society. The homeroom that brings in the most will win a prize. Collections will be made through Oct. 31. Student council advisor is Ms. Karen Berigan.
Alex's Lemonade Stand at CHS
The Cardinal High School sophomore class will be selling lemonade to help raise money as part of cancer awareness. They are supporting an organization called Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation For Childhood Cancer.
The organization was created by a young girl named Alex from Pennsylvania who developed the idea while she was battling cancer. Unfortunately, Alex passed away from cancer when she was only 8, but managed to raise more than one million dollars prior to her death in hopes that other children could be spared from the dreaded disease.
The sophomores kicked off their campaign at the last home volleyball game. They will be selling lemonade during their lunch periods through Oct. 30.
Contributions can be made on behalf of their stand by mailing donations to: Alex's Lemonade Stand, 333 E. Lancaster Ave. #414, Wynnewood, PA 19096. Or, donations can be made by calling 1-866-333-1213 or by logging in to www.AlexsLemonade.org. The high school stand is registered under the name Blaine V., sophomore class secretary.
Mrs. Bethany Drebus and Mrs. Candi Peters are the sophomore class advisors.
