Geauga Theater presents Radio Boy
The 2009-10 Geauga Theater season continues with the world premier of an original radio drama, Radio Boy, written by Cleveland's own Joanne Durante and directed by Mark Cipra.
Radio Boy follows the life of a young boy whose family moves to Chardon to find work during the Great Depression. As the boy's real world crumbles around him, the imaginary worlds presented on the radio help him find hope for the future.
Radio Boy will run Nov. 13-15, with evening performances on Friday and Saturday, and a Sunday matinee.
The historic theater is located on beautiful Chardon Square at 106 Water St. in Chardon. For information or to purchase tickets, visit www.geaugatheater.org or call the box office at (440) 286-2255.
Write a radio commercial for Radio Boy
Geauga LTG invites middle school students throughout Geauga County to develop a 60-second old-time radio-style commercial promoting an historically authentic business circa 1936. Curriculum-enriching materials are available for teachers who want to make the contest a class project.
Although all middle-school students are eligible to participate, submissions will only be accepted through public, private or home-school teachers. All commercials must promote historically authentic enterprises operating in any one of Geauga, Lake, Portage, Ashtabula or Trumbull counties in 1936, but no longer operational today. Scripts must combine announcer dialogue and appropriate sound effects.
All entrants will receive one free ticket to the Nov. 13 performance of Radio Boy at the Geauga Theater. Winning entries will be incorporated into that evening performance and will also be broadcast in December by WKHR 91.5 radio, when Bob Wilkin presents Radio Boy to his Sunday Night Bijou audience.
Judging the entries will be Radio Boy playwright Joanne Durante and other members of the Radio Boy steering committee.
